Life on Earth! Thousands of philosophers have thought about it, talked about it, written about it. Life is a beautiful thing. There are millions of living beings on this planet, we aren’t alone. But most of the time, we think that we are the most important beings and start worrying about things. We don’t recognize other living beings like plants, animals on land and sea, birds, insects, and even microorganisms. We don’t control much of what is our life, it is under the control of natural elements on this planet which has been in the works for millennia. We make our life what it is! It is not what happens in life, it is how one perceives it.

Philosophy, there are different kinds of them and varies from place to place, regions to region, and country to country, sometimes between different cultures in those places. For sake of discussion, there is western philosophy from Greeks, Rome, Germans, French, England, and America. Most know the famous philosophers of ancient times like Socrates, Plato, Aristotle. But there are millions more who lived on this planet, some may be popular, some would have vanished from peoples imagination. Then there are eastern philosophies such as Indian philosophy [ many kinds within that such as Advaita, Dvaita, Vedantas, and many others found in Jainism, Buddhism, and Hinduism ], Chinese and Japanese philosophies, Zen, and many others. There are kinds of philosophies, for example, Stoicism. There are many schools of thought espoused by many great philosophers, some with thousands or sometimes millions of followers.

Big questions are dealt with in the subjects of various kinds of philosophy. Some are:

What is life? What is the meaning of living?

Why are we here? What happens after life and before life?

What is the purpose of life?

However we do not dwelve into these questions during the happier times or most of the times. Life’s current carries us along from birth, childhood, adolescense and adult hood. Each stage of life has its own demand from playing, studying, working to caring for family and others. This keeps us busy and we move along happily without worry when everything is going fine in our lives. Suddenly, when we are affected by events that hurt us, such as loss of loved ones, heart-break through relationships, or mismatch between expectations and realities in life, we get sad! This may be accompanied or followed by many other emotions such as Anger, Hurt, Fear, Jealousy, Sadness, Guilt, Shame, and many others. These lead to a mental state where we are not able to focus on daily work, and sometimes gets distracted, but for many this may go away by endurance, or through coaching, or talking to friends and familes. Some don’t have the opportunities to avail the help required at the right time and this lead to suffering.

The secret to happiness lies in the way how we react to things happen in our lives. If we are prepared, and learn techniques during good times, it will come in handy during our not so good times. Simple things like have good support system through friends and families, coaches, mentors in the community, regular practices of meditations, self awareness, exercises, hikes and treks in hills or forests and walking in parks provide lots of support during difficult times. Many times the problems get exacerbated when those support systems are not in place either at home or outside such as schools. Even grown ups needs to understand that many of the life stresses can be managed by following simple techniques such as those described above including observing nature, night sky.

Duties and responsibilities, at each stage of our life we have different responsibilities based on our role. Each one of play various roles at the same time, example as a teacher in a school, as an employee or employer, as a parent, as a child, as a sibling, as a spouse, as a friend and colleague and many others. Each one comes with its duties and responsibilities that we had agreed to do or considered default by the society in which we live. In delivering on these commitments we could encounter various issues, as it happens in any during any interaction in human relationships. This leads to various feelings and emotions which affects some of us if not understood and managed properly.

Help, we all need help sometimes even if not all the times. Some of us may be lucky to have good support systems in life from family, friends and society. Some may not, and we need to actively seek out help when we need it. Our goal in building Talkaroo is to provide access to help when someone needs it at ‘critical’ time in life. The therapists, counsellors and psychologists and sometimes psychiatrists can provide valuable intervention, help and services to have good ‘mental health’. Health as you know are primarily body and mind. Many people consider brain and mind are same, however brain is the physical body part in which “mind” is created by us human beings using our learning, experiences, knowledge, circumstances, living environment, life’s conditioning and one’s own effort in understanding the complexities of life. One’s mind is a construct on one’s own making, at times genetic influences may be there.

Timely help and intervention will go a long way to make our life on earth a pleasurable and happy one.
